A word from the CEO

As a family-owned company, we have a unique opportunity to work with a long-term perspective.

When I took over the helm in 2009, we faced major challenges, with losses of almost SEK 1 billion, high debt and major issues in several of our companies. It was a tough period. At the same time, it laid the foundations for the JCE we are today. My goal was to build a profitable and exciting group of companies that would attract talented and business-minded individuals. This has, and continues to be, the cornerstone of our development.
 
Today, JCE is a global group with operations in software, digitalisation, material handling, forestry and industry, among other areas. In addition to continuously working to developing our businesses, we are also good at identifying societal changes early. For example, we were early to implement sustainability processes across all our companies. In addition, our skilled employees are specialists at identifying and developing new business opportunities.
 
As a family-owned company, we have a unique opportunity to think and act long-term. We have been operating for over 50 years, and our motto: JCE creates value for generations reflects our conviction that a company’s value is not solely measured in terms of growth and profitability. It also involves being engaged in societal issues such as promoting sustainability, equality and innovation, as well as being a good and stable workplace for our employees.

Over the years, we have founded several innovative companies in pioneering sectors, developed companies into market leaders and successfully turned companies in crisis into successes. As a second-generation family-owned company, we are characterised by a philosophy that spans generations – not just quarterly reports.
 
Our vision is for every JCE company, regardless of size or sector, to achieve its full potential and set new global standards for success, sustainability and societal impact. Our companies are not only meant to thrive but to push the boundaries of what is possible and create value for future generations.

This long-term perspective is at the core of the way we do business, creating stability both in good and challenging economic times. Today, we are an international group with annual revenues exceeding SEK 6 billion, with more than 5,000 employees in the directly owned subsidiaries JCE Group, JCE South America and JCE Forestry. We have customers all over the world and operations in North- and South America, Europe and Asia.

JCE is owned by the siblings Hampus Ericsson and Fabienne von Schinkel. As the owner company, JCE is responsible for governance and strategic direction across all the holdings.

Our history

JCE has been developing exciting companies since 1971

It all started in 1971, when Sea Captain J. Christer Ericsson decided to leave his career at sea and pursue a simple yet innovative business concept, lashing containers with straps. The company grew rapidly, and soon expanded into areas such as accommodation platforms, hotel operations and forestry, with significant internationalisation. These expansions demonstrated his innovative abilities, as well as his talent for identifying and developing new market opportunities.
 
Today, more than 50 years later, JCE has left the oil industry and looks very different. However, we have retained the core of the strategy: the ability to innovate, being internationally active in growth sectors and diversifying our business operations. In addition, we have very low levels of indebtedness. We believe that our strategy, combined with constant change, is the key to our success.
 
Since Hampus Ericsson took over the leadership in 2009, the company’s strategic direction has been focused on development, profitability and growth of the core businesses. We have not only developed our role as an owner but also created a business-oriented organisation focused on developing existing holdings and exploring new growth areas.

JCE Family Office

A platform for joint development towards our long-term vision

JCE Family Office sets the agenda for JCE. This is an institution and a tool within JCE with the mission to shape and uphold a long-term vision for the group. By establishing consensus between the owners, JCE and the subsidiaries, we ensure that JCE continuously develops in the right direction for the future.

At the annual owners’ meetings, we discuss and make decisions on important issues such as dividend policies, board appointments and the establishment of owners’ directives. These meetings are valuable opportunities for an open dialogue between the owners and the organisation, fostering mutual understanding and creating the foundation for successful collaboration.
 
Our owners’ directives are developed through an iterative process together with the management teams of our companies. This approach ensures that each company’s strategy is well-founded and in line with the JCE’s overall goals. We are convinced that transparency and clarity are essential to continue building a successful JCE that evolves alongside our companies.
